Rust isn’t just a visual eyesore. It’s also damaging to the frame and erodes its tensile strength. Learn how to protect your vehicle frame’s surface and offset the formation of rust. Visit our dealership’s Volvo repair center for treating existing corrosion.

Wash Your Car Frequently

We recommend washing your car at least once a month. A washing does more than just keep the car looking clean. It also removes dirt, salt, and other corrosive material that can eat away at the paint and cause rust to form.

Salt is especially bad and is up to 10 times more corrosive than water alone.

Occasionally Apply Wax

Apply wax after a wash at least twice per year. Aside from giving your vehicle a glossy shine, wax also provides a protective barrier against the aforementioned corrosive materials.

If you park your car outside and not in a garage, then you should apply wax even more often, about four times per year.

Keep the Interior Dry

Prevent water from getting inside the cabin. Unbeknownst to most people, moisture in the interior does lead to rust in the exterior.

Water inside the vehicle can seep through the upholstery and carpet, and eventually make its way to the metal frame. You can also use a portable car dehumidifier to remove excess moisture in the cabin.

Apply Underbody Sealant

Underbody sealant is available at your local automotive store. As its name implies, the spray is intended for the vehicle’s undercarriage and protects the suspension against rust. We recommend having a professional apply this spray.

Make an appointment at our service center. We restore blemishes like rust, dents, and paint scratches. Models like the Volvo XC40 and others all require occasional rust prevention measures.
